For the first visit, neither an appointment nor a referral from another doctor is necessary.
For the second visit, appointments for examinations are scheduled to reduce waiting time in the hospital.

Advice for the first consultation

On the day of the first consultation, patients often are examined after their eyes have been dilated. Because the effects of the drug used to dilate the eyes may last for about 5 hours, we recommend that you do not travel alone by car to the hospital.

If you are covered by the Japanese public insurance system, necessary surgeries specified by the law are covered by the insurance. Credit cards are acceptable only for the surgical fee of LASIK and PRK (not covered by the public insurance). Only Japanese yen is acceptable for all other payments.
